Review By: Robert Cross,   The Arizona Republic - June 16, 2005
More than 100 photos vividly portray the majesty and magic of this vast park,
from charging bison to flying cranes, from pastoral valleys to snow-covered
mountains, from close-ups of dainty spiderflowers to the delicate blossoms
protected by the spikes of a hedgehog cactus. And there are the dramatic
pictures of the park's signature feature: the sand dunes. Augmenting the
visuals, Benedict's text is brief, informative and entertaining. She interjects
folksy personal experiences that complement the visual impressions. The
combination of photography and writing offers an intimate peek at this sandy
expanse that the casual visitor could never experience.
