Words from the artist, Chris Woolley: I am a Colorado native, born and raised here in Colorado Springs. My great grandparents on both sides of my family moved to the state at the end of the 1800's and we never left. Colorado has been in my family's blood for a long time. I paint Colorado because I love Colorado. My life is at it's best when I'm at timberline, or in the forest when it's snowing, looking at the silhouette of aspen and pine trees against the evening sky, listening to the sound of coyotes yipping fifty feet away from my tent at four in the morning, or the sound my heart pounding as I attempt to gain elevation on a mountain.

Even though Colorado has become rather over crowded in the last fifteen years, there are wild places here. Places that make the hair stand up on the back of your neck, because you know that you are not the master of where you are standing. You feel small and weak. You feel a connection with prehistory. Like most people I'm not a big fan of feeling small and weak, but I am a big fan of the wild places. The feeling small part is just your indicator. Watercolor paintings are like good coffee or fine wines. They are an acquired taste. Most people start painting by playing around with watercolors, but quickly give it up for paints that are harder to prepare yet easier to control. I've been painting watercolors for over twenty years and what so intrigues me about watercolors are their inherent luminosity. While oil or acrylic paints reflect the light according to the color of the paint itself. Watercolors are transparent allowing the light to reflect off the paper and shine back through the pigment. Thus giving the watercolor painting a glow that cannot be matched by any other method of painting.
Realistic. Natural. Subdued. Perhaps even "quiet" comes to mind. These are wonderful paintings. If you want to visit his website now, please click the Colorful Logo below.
